Designer Spotlight: Nermo Interior Designs

IMG_6393Meet Nermin Daoud of Nermo Interior Designs. Nermin is a sensitive, intuitive and sophisticated Interior Designer working in the GTA, in Residential and Retail design.  She is influenced by her travels and exposure to the many cultures and artistic expressions of the places she’s visited over the years. Her Egyptian background, and world travels, influences her aristocratic, high-class design esthetic.

Since moving to the Greater Toronto Area in 2015 from Egypt Nermin has continued to advance her education, completing Sheridan Collee’s Visual Design program and recently obtaining a Degree in Interior Design from Yorkville University. This drive to learn, as well as her empathetic personality, has also led her to pursue further education on “Aging-In-place”. It is very important to Nermin that she create ideal spaces which allow her clients to remain in their cherished – and stylish – homes long term; comfortably, safely and with independence.

The accumulations of Nermin’s unique life experiences give her a very unique perspective and have evolved her creativity; influencing her interpretation of current trends, style, light, contrast, balance and colour. Her clients and their guests are continually impressed by how the incorporation of furnishings, fabrics and accessories change their experience of the space. Nermin’s design philosophy is all about creating a physical space which influences her client’s emotions, creating an experience of serenity, peace, joy and intimacy while maintaining complete functionality.

This home in Mississauga Ontario represents Nermin’s design esthetic well.  In her own words the home is “a journey where one can smoothly and comfortably immerse and nurture oneself in a world of beauty”. The kitchen is the place where the family is meant to gather, share stories, entertain, eat delicious food – and of course cook! Striking a balance of traditional charm and contemporary chicness, the style of the home can be described as Transitional Design – which compliments the architecture of the new build.  This open concept Kitchen-Dining-Living space was important to her clients as they are looking forward to being able to entertain guests as well as enjoy intimate family time within the space. Through consultation a monochromatic colour scheme with pops of colour was chosen. Classic natural materials were incorporated into the modern sensibilities inspired the kitchen to be named “Sophisticated Intuition”.  The floors are a combination of porcelain and glazed tile from Centura  . The beautiful Sileston Countertops are Engineered Quartz in White Arabesque.

The functionality, flexibility and comfort of the kitchen are key for Nermin’s clients. She utilizes her knowledge, skills and experience to create a vision of the space that suits her client’s lifestyle. Their needs, routines, and the way the family lives, were taken in to great care when creating the design for the space, as well as when picking the materials, hardware, fixtures and furniture.  With a big family storage is very important, and there is plenty of it in this kitchen with ample pantry and cupboard space. Storage solutions extend to the choice of refrigeration.  Their Thermador 36” built-in stainless steel Pro Fridge has French doors with a bottom freezer drawer  has plenty of room.

For this family the kitchen is a hub of activity and the family loves to cook and bake. They love that with their built in wall ovens and separate cooktop multiple people can be in the kitchen working on different dishes and not get in each others way. The built in Thermador Combination High Speed Oven and built in Thermador Microwave combination provides convenience and speed.

The Stainless Steel Thermador dishwasher  is conveniently built in to the island, keep the walls free for storage and cabinetry. The island feature deep black walnut cabinetry, creating an anchor point for the glossy white kitchen. The choice for a large island creates this central space, as well as a natural flow and room for everyone. There is enough room for the hard-working task of making meals, and spending time with family and guests at the same time. The inclusion of dining and living space make it easy to relax and enjoy a glass of wine at the end of the day. There is plenty of leg room, and space to keep seating tucked out of the way when not being used. The white tile backsplash above the Thermador 36” Masterpiece Gas Cooktop  is accented with a custom-made mother of pearl mosaic. The beautiful custom hood contains a Thermador 36” built-in hood for ventilation.

The process for selecting appliances started with assisting the Home Owners with creating a budget that was reasonable, taking into consideration their lifestyle and the features required for optimal use of their kitchen. The selected appliances enhanced the aesthetic and elegance of the kitchen.

The home owners were so happy with the results of their home they shared them with their friends, and as a result Nermin is now working on multiple homes in the neighbourhood! We can’t wait to see the results!
